Bella, Bijan, and the Plus Size Controversy
As I have mentioned, I have finally gotten Rosie interested in blogging. She has dragged her feet for months, not wishing to embrace the technology.
She finally gave in, after much protest, and I built her a nice Wordpress blog at Bella Grande. Rosie agonizes over many things, and spends hours researching and worrying over what to post. Last night, she showed me a site that featured Mr. Bijan, in which he pays homage to the Rubenesque woman. His model, Bella, is one of 60 women who were interviewed. Mr. Bijan produced an advertisement, and sent it off as usual to his resources. They were rejected out of hand. He of course asked why, and no one would give him a straight answer. He then turned to a colleague, Tina Brown, editor and chief of Talk magazine, who was so moved by the ads that she agreed to run all three–”Motel,” “Siesta” and “Bella”–in the February issue of Talk magazine. Not long after, his phone rang off the hook, with magazine editors begging for him to include his ads in upcoming issues. Gee. Imagine that!
Rosie showed me the site which I have linked to here. She promptly bookmarked it and said she would return to it later. I chastised her for this, telling her to write the article in 5 minutes and just post. I left for a bit to go to the store for refreshments, and when I returned, she had done so. The results amazed me. She is finding her voice, and not agonizing over every little detail. Is it perfect? I have to ask myself what is. But an excellent post it is.
Got to the Bella Grande blog and give her some support and a little link love. The old girl deserves it.
Peace,
Charlie~
